International Women’s Day 2026

International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated annually on March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It has been around for well over a century, with the first IWD marked in 1911!

The theme for 2026 is “Give to Gain” – and we wanted to highlight some of the fantastic women who work in our service, and the ways they’ve given, and the things they’ve gained, from working in sexual health.

Kerrie and Carly from our Commercial Sex Worker Outreach Team, and Ragini, our Training Co-ordinator, talk about the knowledge they’d like to share with women, how they have supported women, and what they have gained from their work in our services.

Kerrie and Carly, Commercial Sex Worker Outreach Team

What one piece of knowledge or advice would you like to give to women when it comes to sexual health?

There is no question that you can’t ask – as women we’ve probably been there too! Also, try not to feel uncomfortable in your own body; we see so many women who apologise that they’ve not shaved their legs – you never need to apologise for your body hair or body parts!

How do you feel like you have supported women in your role?

As outreach workers we support women from the most vulnerable groups and offer services that can really improve their health and wellbeing.

What do you feel like you have gained in your role within sexual health?

Being a voice for vulnerable women who may normally go unheard. And empowering women to feel confident and supported with their own sexual health.

Consent empowers women to make choices that are right for them.

How do you feel like you have supported women in your role?

Creating a safe, non-judgmental space where they feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues.

What do you feel like you have gained in your role within sexual health?

Working in sexual health has helped me gain strong communication skills, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the diverse experiences people have around relationships and sexual wellbeing.
