Black History Month 2026

Throughout October, communities, schools, organisations and institutions across the country will honour the contributions of Black people to Britain’s past, present and future.

The UK theme for Black History Month 2026 is “Honouring Our Communities”

Black History Month 2026 invites us to look more closely at something often taken for granted — the communities that shape, support and sustain us.

From early Black presence in Britain to the Windrush generation and beyond, community has been central to resilience, progress and identity. That legacy continues today — not only through major milestones, but through consistent, everyday contributions.

Read more about this year’s theme on the Black History Month website, and see how we feel our team and service have contributed and helped Leicester’s Black community below.

Our Work

We honour our community all year round with holistic health support. We recognise that sexual health is part of a bigger picture, so our team work hard to bring sexual health services into the community and have wider health discussions.

Clinics in the community – We have clinics in Beaumont Leys, Belgrave and St Matthews. We have also just started a monthly clinic for asylum seekers and refugees at Leicestershire LGBTQ+ Centre.

Outreach work – Our team attend local events to talk about sexual health and related health topics. We can offer drop-in sessions, group chats or similar, depending on the service type, to empower individuals to control their health.

Find out more about our work and the services we offer on the Diverse Communities page of our website.

Our Team

We are proud to have a diverse team, offering our services with care, dignity and
compassion.

Being from diverse backgrounds helps us better understand the needs and expectations of the communities we serve.

This Black History Month, we thank our Black staff members past and present for their valuable contributions, which are essential to our service and keeping our community healthy.
